Founder-led
Finlay founded The AI Lab to help people and organisations put AI to practical use. He co-founded a certified Microsoft Business Solutions partner in Dundee and spent nearly 30 years building and leading it, serving hundreds of clients across the UK before its sale in 2023.
Today, Finlay brings that experience to practical AI training and strategic advice. He also built Benchmark Lab, the benchmarking platform behind the free AI indices we offer. His approach draws on the tools he uses and builds with every day.
Based in Scotland, he works with people and organisations across the UK, in person and online.

What to know before taking an index or booking support.
Still wondering? Ask usYes. It’s free and open to everyone, whether you use AI regularly or haven’t started yet. You get your own results, with no requirement to book training or buy anything. Your individual results are not shown to your employer.
The AI Adoption Index explores how AI is becoming part of your organisation’s work. The AI Governance Index examines your approach to governing its use. Take either or both, depending on what you want to understand. Both include a free organisation report. The Personal AI Index provides a separate perspective on people’s own experience.
Benchmark Lab develops the indices and provides the platform where you take them and view your results. The AI Lab offers them as a delivery partner, alongside optional training and practical support. The AI Lab and Benchmark Lab are trading names of The AI Adoption Lab Limited.
Research beta means the indices are still being researched and refined. Your results show the version you took and its status. Use the findings as a starting point for reflection and discussion, allowing for changes to questions or participants when comparing results over time.
No. You can book Confident & Safe AI directly. AI Adviser is a separate option for leadership teams that want a business-wide AI plan. Its strategy package is available on its own, and ongoing monthly advice is optional.
The team course is for up to ten people. Larger teams can run across multiple sessions. You can use free versions of the tools during training, so you don’t need to buy licences before you start.
